How to Set Up 301 Redirects on HubSpot

301 redirects are best practice for site migrations, URL changes, site restructuring, and consolidating content to the preferred URLs. They pass along link equity and ensure a smooth experience for users and search engines when a site changes its domain.

To gather the URLs you need to redirect, follow these steps:

1. Go to XML-Sitemaps.com.

2. Type in your URL and click “start.”

3. After you click start, the program will scan your website for sitemap details. Copy the URLs in the Sitemap preview.

4. Paste your URLs into a spreadsheet in an “Old Slug” column and have a “New URL Pool” with all the new slugs.

5. Using your best judgment, choose a URL slug from the “New URL Pool” to match the Old URL.

6. On your old site, many pages have similar content, so you can multi-select and paste in a slug from the new pool. Unsure what content might be on the page just from looking at the URL? Click through the link to see the page. At the very least, old slugs should lead back to the new home page.
