As we closed out 2023, LONDONmiddlebury chose a guiding motto to fuel our journey in the new year: "In Pursuit Of." This energetic phrase fully encapsulates our company’s ethos— the hungry, forward-leaning drive that pushes us ever forward.
The spirit of our phrase-of-the-year connects deeply with our values of persistence, curiosity, and commitment. We’re perpetually chasing excellence— both collectively and as individuals— and fully intend to keep uncovering new horizons for our company and clients in 2024. It captures our company’s determined attitude as it tracks down another year of growth and defined goals. The phrase is meant to spark motivation and the relentless attitude needed to make 2024 a success.
If you look at the definition of “pursuit,” derived from the Anglo-French word “purseute,” you’ll find that it’s the act of following or searching for someone or something, in order to catch it. The great thing about the word pursuit is that anything can follow it. You could be in the pursuit of happiness, the pursuit of success, the pursuit of passion. It’s all up to you and what you’re chasing.
Simply making "pursuit" our guiding word would have fallen short in capturing our ethos. We are not motivated by capturing objectives, but by relentlessly advancing and evolving beyond what has been accomplished before.
We plan to actively chase after goals, ambitions, growth targets, new markets, and opportunities in 2024. There is a connotation of dynamism (the quality of being characterized by vigorous activity and progress) and proactive effort, motivated to keep moving forward and try new things (even if we’re scared of them).
2024 will be a year focused on progress, development, and innovation. We are “in pursuit of” forward momentum and advancement. We have certain objectives in our sights for the year, and we’re excited about them. There are tangible targets we’re going after: new technologies, fruitful business partnerships, higher revenue goals, and more. When we meet these objectives, we will take time to recognize we have done so, reminding ourselves what we’re “in pursuit of” all year long. And when milestones are met, we’re not planning to admire them for long. Each conquered peak simply affords a view of the next summit within reach.
What’s more, we’re asking clients to identify what they’re “in pursuit of.” Their pursuit will become our pursuit, pushing them to be their best selves and do their best work.
Selecting a word of the year is an impactful exercise that rallies a team, provides clarity, and infuses intentionality into all endeavors. More than a symbolic gesture, it is a proactive way to manifest an embodied culture and mindset that will drive outcomes.
When we anchored on "In Pursuit Of" as our 2024 motto, we were not simply assigning a catchy phrase. We were activating a dynamic energy, lighting a fire under our team to make ambitious visions reality. It will pulsate through every brainstorm, every social post, every victory lap.
The possibilities lying ahead energize us, while the challenges we'll inevitably face will reinforce our grit. We will meet every obstacle as an opportunity to showcase our tireless drive to create, optimize, and unlock unforeseen value on behalf of clients.
